Geely has a habit of using major auto shows to test bold ideas, and its latest concept SUV is a clear example. Known online as the Geely Galaxy Battleship, the vehicle was officially unveiled as the Galaxy Cruiser at Auto Shanghai 2025 — and it’s already generating serious attention across global automotive circles.

At first glance, the Galaxy Cruiser leans heavily into the modern boxy SUV trend. Upright proportions, squared edges, and a rugged stance have led many to compare it to the Land Rover Defender. This isn’t accidental. Geely positions the concept as a next‑generation adventure vehicle — but with a distinctly tech‑forward Chinese approach.

Unlike traditional off‑roaders, the Galaxy Cruiser is built around multi‑energy flexibility. Geely says the system can intelligently switch between electric drive, hybrid operation, and extended‑range modes depending on terrain and conditions. An AI‑controlled drivetrain manages torque distribution, traction, and terrain response without driver input.
In concept form, it also demonstrates advanced manoeuvres such as crab walking, pivot turns, and continued driving even with a flat tyre — features designed to showcase the platform’s adaptability rather than confirm production specs.

Inside, the Galaxy Cruiser departs from conventional SUV cabins. Physical buttons are almost entirely replaced by digital interfaces, with large central displays reportedly measuring up to 15.6 inches. The cockpit focuses on software‑driven controls, interactive driving modes, and real‑time vehicle intelligence — reinforcing Geely’s push toward software‑defined vehicles.

One of the most talked‑about aspects of the concept is its claimed amphibious capability. Geely states that the Galaxy Cruiser can float on water for up to two hours at low speed, using onboard sensors and water‑detection systems. While eye‑catching, this feature remains firmly in concept territory and should be viewed as a technological showcase rather than a guaranteed production function.

As of now, the Galaxy Cruiser remains a concept vehicle, with production timelines pointing toward 2026 at the earliest, initially for the Chinese market. No official confirmation has been made regarding Middle East availability.
That said, the growing regional interest in rugged SUVs, combined with Geely’s expanding global footprint, makes the question valid: if a production version does arrive, markets like Qatar would be a natural fit.
