Chinese automaker Chery is preparing to unveil its new flagship SUV, the Tiggo V, at the Beijing Auto Show this Friday. The model has already generated interest after an early teaser appearance in Kuwait, where it was described as a “core global model” with a highly flexible cabin layout.
At its core, the Tiggo V is expected to be the production evolution of last year’s experimental 6=1 concept, which explored the idea of a single SUV capable of serving multiple roles depending on configuration. While ambitious in concept, the production version appears more grounded for real-world use.
Concept Behind the Tiggo V
The original 6=1 concept, revealed in late 2025, was a large three-row SUV measuring nearly five meters in length—slightly longer than the Chery Tiggo 9.
Its standout feature was a removable rear roof section weighing around 30 kg, designed to be detached manually in roughly 25 minutes. Once removed, the vehicle effectively transformed into a pickup-style layout with up to 600 litres of cargo space, tie-down points, and modular storage options.
It also introduced a “Camper Mode,” allowing users to mount roof tents and outdoor accessories, aiming to merge SUV practicality with light utility and camping functionality.
However, the version expected in Beijing appears to drop the removable roof system entirely, shifting toward a more conventional and practical SUV design.

How It Compares to Other SUVs
The concept of a transformable SUV is not new. Models like the Deepal E07 already offer flexible cargo and body configurations without manual disassembly.
Chery’s approach seems different, focusing less on physical transformation and more on adaptable interior layouts and modular cabin functionality.
The Tiggo V will sit above the Chery Tiggo 8 in the lineup, one of the brand’s core three-row SUVs in China. Pricing and specifications remain undisclosed.

Chery’s Bigger Plans for the Beijing Show
The Tiggo V is part of a major showcase at the Beijing Auto Show, running from April 24 to May 3, featuring over 1,400 vehicles and nearly 200 global premieres.
Chery is also highlighting new technologies, including a 48V low-voltage platform and its KunPeng engine, which delivers a reported thermal efficiency of 48.57%. The company is additionally pushing fast-charging systems and expanding its international partnerships through a global industry summit.
More broadly, Chery is repositioning its brand strategy around “family mobility,” with the Tiggo lineup at the center of this direction.
What Still Hasn’t Been Revealed
Key specifications for the Tiggo V—including powertrain options, dimensions, and pricing—have not yet been announced.
Given the direction of Chery’s lineup, especially models like the Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV, an electrified variant is highly likely.
Full details will be revealed at the official launch in Beijing. It remains unclear how closely the production model will follow the original concept, but it represents a clear push toward more flexible SUV design.
