How to protect your car from rust during winter

By, 2018-11-04

After the burning summer heat, today we are about to welcome winter, cold and rainy days. You must have prepared yourself well for cold and rain and you must have planned to have more care about yourself to prevent diseases. But have you thought about equipping your car to receive the rainy season?!

In this season, your vehicle may have rust if you do not take care of it and prepare it for rain. Rust is known to be a chemical reaction caused by oxygen bonding to metal making it fragile and weak. In winter, the opportunity of having rust on the body of the car is increased because of the presence of water, which has a large role in accelerating the process of rust.

So how the car can be prepared to welcome winter. Are there some tips in case of floods? This is what we will discuss in detail in this article.

First: How do I protect my car from rust in Winter?

Unstable weather, water and dust affect the body of the car, which can lead to the accumulation of water and salts that corrode the surface of the vehicle. So you have to do some steps to protect the car and prevent rust in winter.

1 - Washing the car

You may be surprised by this step, how will we protect the car from rust by exposing it to water? Do not rush, the presence of dust, mud and various salts on the surface of the car erodes the coating layer and thus facilitate the arrival of rainwater to the metal of the car. So that, washing and cleaning the car from dirt and mud is very important in winter.

2 - car waxing

This is a very important step to follow before the beginning of winter. Car wax protects it from moisture and salts and the accumulation of mud on the surface of the car. The wax acts as a protective layer for the vehicle's metals from external and variable weather conditions. But before doing the waxing, you should clean the car and make sure there are no deposits or accumulations on the surface.

3- Car covering

This step is similar to the previous one, which is to cover the car with a special plastic layer to protect the body of the car. The covering differs from the waxing that it gives greater protection to the body not only from rust, but also from minor scratches.

4. Use car cover

If you do not have the ability to wax or cover the car with plastic, you can simply follow the traditional methods of using the waterproof car cover. It prevents water from reaching the vehicle's metal and protects the car from blowing  dusty air that can lead to scratches on the surface.

Second: How can the car be protected after floods?

In the case of minor flooding that did not cover all parts of the body, go directly to a car wash to wash the car well from the inside and outside. It is necessary to reach the lower parts of the car so as not to accumulate water and dirt on the brakes and other parts and cause rust.

Carefully inspect the underside and interior that can't be seen, wash and dry to prevent rust. Then you can protect those parts with some rust-resistant materials such as wax.

With these steps, you can protect your car from rust before winter or after rain and flooding. Prepare your car for the winter and enjoy its wonderful weather.
