The General Directorate of Traffic in Qatar

The General Directorate of Traffic in Qatar is always seeking to spread the culture of traffic and traffic awareness in order to ensure the safety and security of citizens and to achieve traffic safety on the road. The last campaigns launched by the General Directorate of Traffic were "Accident-free Summer" and were followed by many other awareness campaigns.

All awareness campaigns conducted by the General Directorate of Traffic are the responsibility of the Department of Media and Traffic Awareness in Qatar. The Department of Media and Traffic Awareness is responsible for setting up plans and regulations for traffic and road safety.

The Traffic Awareness Department is the primary responsible for spreading awareness and traffic culture among different groups of society by organizing awareness campaigns and campaigns that enhance traffic safety culture on the road and among citizens.

There are many basic functions carried out by the Department of Information and Traffic Awareness. These responsibility include:

Proposing the annual plan of the department, and implementing it after its adoption, within the framework of the ministry's general policy.
Preparing researches, studies and traffic statistics, in coordination with the competent authorities.
Spreading traffic awareness among the members of the community through the issuance of brochures, leaflets, publications and lectures.
Responding to complaints and suggestions from the various media, in coordination with the Public Relations Department.
Organizing seminars on the dissemination of culture and awareness of traffic through all means of communication.
Preparing and implementing specialized training programs related to the field of administration work, in coordination with the concerned authorities.
Supervising the work of the departments of the Department, working on developing them and providing their material and human needs in coordination with the competent authorities, in order to ensure the proper functioning of the work.
Propose the draft annual budget of the Department.

In order to facilitate the work of the Department, the Department of Media and Traffic Awareness Department has 4 sections, each with its own functions completing each other as follows:

1- Department of Studies and Traffic Information

The function of this department is to conduct comprehensive studies and opinion polls from citizens on the issue of traffic safety in order to develop managed strategies to achieve traffic safety. These tasks include:

Conducting studies of the wrong traffic phenomena and behavior.
Conducting surveys and surveys on various services and traffic events.
Participate in studies and research carried out by the public bodies and institutions in the State.
Analysis of data and traffic statistics.
Preparing all practical materials for awareness publications (brochures, brochures, brochures, awareness films).

2- Awareness and traffic culture department

After reviewing the studies and opinion polls from the Department of Studies and Traffic Information, it’s the time for this department to take part in the process to perform the following tasks:

Build partnerships with institutions, ministries, agencies, media, car agencies, schools for leadership education and foreign communities.
Marketing programs, events and campaigns Awareness among sponsors supporting awareness efforts.
Spread traffic awareness among road users in order to reduce traffic accidents and reduce the number of deaths and injuries resulting from them.
Preparing the annual traffic awareness plan.
Implementation of traffic awareness plans and programs.
Carry out activities, events and traffic awareness campaigns.
Managing the electronic awareness accounts through a specialized media office.

3- Technical Support department

This department works side by side with the previous section where it is concerned with providing all the necessary equipment for meetings, awareness campaigns, plans and programs carried out by the Department of Awareness and Culture Traffic. These tasks include:

Supervising the sites of traffic activities and events scheduled and equipped with all that is needed.
Preparation of publications and explanatory materials used in awareness programs (brochures, flyers, cassettes, banners, traffic village, display screens, supervision after approval).
Organization of internal and external meetings. And creams carried out by the public administration.
Supervising the Traffic Library.
Training rooms and courses.
Providing all the needs of the Department in coordination with the competent authorities.
Archive of traffic pictures + archive of awareness films.
Provide traffic magazine with all needs.
Awareness designs + magazine designs.

4- Training and Development department

The last department is the training and development department which aims to develop the work of the rest of the departments in general based on their work and campaigns. These tasks include:

Develop plans and training programs for public administration in cooperation with the Human Resources Department, the Police Training Institute and the Strategic Planning Department.
Develop plans and programs to develop the human cadres of public administration and raise the efficiency of performance in providing various traffic services.
Developing curricula for different training courses and courses.
Evaluation of courses and training courses and their utilization.

In order to raise awareness on a large scale, the Department of Traffic Information and Awareness has posted the basic traffic safety requirements and rules for both driver and vehicles on the Ministry of Interior website as follows:

Traffic safety requirements for vehicles:

Drivers must adhere to these guidelines before driving his vehicle:

Arrange the driving seat in a comfortable position for you
Buckle up and prevent children below 10 years to sit in the front seats.
Make sure to put the side and interior mirrors in the right mode that lets you see the cars behind you or beside you.
Make sure that your co-traveler wears seat belt.
Before starting the car engine, make sure that the handbrake is tight and the engine is in the correct position.
Make sure your vehicle’s alarm system are functional.
Pay attention to driving and not to be busy with something else.
Abide by the stipulated speed for the road.
Abide by the road marks that show you how to move from one track to another, as well as on the main street and roundabouts.
Leave safe distance between you and the car in front of you.
Ensure that the road is free before you enter it.
Give pedestrians their right to cross the road.
Never overtake in places where overtaking is forbidden.
Never change the track suddenly without checking the track.
Don’t use strobe lights to annoy the drivers in front of you.
