safety distance while driving in qatar

The Ministry of the Interior and the General Directorate of Traffic in Qatar are always pay a lot of efforts to save the lives of citizens and residents from traffic accidents, so they work together to educate people about behaviors that pose a threat to their lives. Not leaving a safety distance and overloading of vehicles are two major causes of catastrophic traffic accidents in Qatar and around the world.

In order to maintain the public safety, lives and property of all, the General Directorate of Traffic in Qatar has determined the safety distance that drivers should not exceed and the weight of the permitted load.

What is the safety distance and loading weight limit as determined by the General Directorate of Traffic?

Safety distance in Qatar:

The safety distance can simply be defined as the distance the driver must leave between him and the other vehicle in front of him to avoid accidents that may occur due to sudden parking. The safety distance also includes the distance between vehicles on both sides of the vehicle, right and left.

The safety distance specified by the General Directorate of Traffic in Qatar under normal conditions must not be less than 5 to 10 meters in an estimate. Certainly the safety distance in other conditions such as rain, wind, dust and fog is certainly increasing due to the risk and weak vision.

In addition, it varies between cities and outside areas. In this case, the general rule is that any increase in the speed must come along with an increase in the safety distance to give other drivers a chance in case of sudden stop on highways.

Some drivers negligence of the required safety distance cause catastrophic traffic accidents in cases of sudden stop, car crashes, or illness of the driver. So all drivers must pay attention to the safety distance and leave enough space to keep the lives and property of everyone.

Overloading of vehicle in Qatar:

There are certain load weights that drivers should put in their vehicles and the weight of the permitted load depends on the size of the vehicle and type of load. The lack of commitment by drivers to the weight limit and overloading  would cause many risks to the life and property of persons on the roads.

Overloading the vehicle can make the load fall on the roads causing serial and catastrophic accidents when collided with the car itself or other cars. It is also possible to cause overloading imbalance in the vehicle and will not be able to handle with the tire burst.

Vehicle drivers should adhere to specified loads and do not carry any load in violation of the basic vehicle weights. Other safety procedure that drivers should follow is to tie the load on the vehicle well.

The weights drivers should abide by are:

  • 5-axles Truck: 45 tons
  • 4-axles Truck: 42 tons
  • 4-axles Truck (Front) : 37 tons
  • 2-axles Truck: 21 tons
