Car accidents are unfortunately a problem for all countries in the world, including Qatar, and there are hundreds of people die every day from road accidents. In addition to that, car accidents cause thousands of injuries, more than half of which are serious and cause permanent disabilities. Despite the efforts made by countries, organizations and institutions to eliminate traffic accidents, the best results are to reduce the number of accidents, deaths and injuries.
In Qatar, fatal traffic accidents are still a bitter reality, but it is worth mentioning that the General Directorate of Traffic in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior are working hard to reduce the number of accidents, deaths and injuries through a lot of methods such as awareness campaigns on the ground and on their official social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
According to what the head of traffic at South Security Department, Muhammad bin Jassim Al-Thani, said in a press conference in 15/7/2018 about the awareness campaign called " Accident-free summer", the main cause of car accidents is using phone while driving and this reason causes over half of the fatal vehicle accidents in Qatar.
He added that statistics stated that using mobile during driving caused 44.1% of the minor injuries, 52.2 % of the serious injuries and 51.6 % of the deaths, of the total traffic accidents recorded recently.

Phones make drivers losing their focus and distract the driver. The driver thinks that the process will take just few seconds to check the phone or send a message, yet these few seconds will kill him or others.
Exceeding speeds and exceeding the limited speeds cause many traffic accidents. In Qatar, the violation of limited speeds is the most committed violation in Qatar; you can imagine the amount of accidents that may be caused by these violations. Qatar Traffic Law is very clear to everyone and everyone can abide by it, but there are many people who do not comply with the laws, causing many traffic accidents and loss of lives and properties.

To shed more light, in 2016 the number of violations of the use of the phone during driving was 10,654 violations, 12,651 violations in 2010 and 27,735 violations in 2015. On the other hand, the numbers has been decreased to 4,078 violations in the first half of this year.
There is a great individual responsibility that everyone should feel to reduce the number of car accidents. The General Directorate of Traffic in Qatar is also working to provide all means to reduce the number of accidents such as spreading awareness campaigns, repairing roads, publishing warning signs and making more efforts to save lives and property.
