ABS Brakes or Mechanical Brakes? Which Will Save my Life?

By, 2018-05-10

The latest technology and the development of cars have reached all parts of the car, and the most important part of the car is the brake system that the whole car relies heavily on it. Its role is to stop the car or reduce the speed.

So brakes are the most important system of control and safety in the car and the more advanced brake system is, the greater the safety and protection in the car will be.

Most of the ancient cars were based on regular and mechanicalbrakes, but the system was developed and a new brake system, ABS or what is called anti-lock braking, has been existed.

What is the ABS system and how does the system work? What is the difference between it and regular brakes? Which is better?

Before knowing the ABS system, it is important to know the ordinary brake and how it works to recognize the differences between them:

How does mechanical brake work?

When brakes or mechanical brakes are pressed, the brake oil moves in special cylinders that shut down the tires internally, stopping the vehicle.

Why this type of the brake is not safe?

The whole process is done suddenly, especially in case of sudden stop for fear of colliding with something, that is, it works on the full closure of the tires and it stops the wheels of the car from turning suddenly.

This causes sliding to the car and leads for more traffic accidents.

ABS brakes:

These brakes differ from the previous in terms of shutting process, which is done in a completely different way. ABS brakes contain sensors that calculate the speed of each tire and determine the size of the shutting force required by each tire based on its speed.

The system stops each tire separately to reduce the speed of the car gradually and this process occurs 20 times per second.

What are the advantages of ABS brakes?

• The most important feature of this technology, which is called the anti-lock braking is to prevent the closure of the tires suddenly and thus protect them from slipping.

• It stops the car faster but in a safer way.

• It measures the speed of each tire individually and thus uses the appropriate force for each tire and works to balance all tires.
