Watch: a Self-Driving Car with Virtual Eyes

 

People often fear self-driving cars especially at a pedestrian walkway. So that, Jaguar Land Lover has developed a self-driving car with virtual eyes.

 

To achieve better trust and results, the company used cognitive psychologists to understand how new technology will  affect human trust. Through the video released by the company, the car appears with very nice virtual eyes which communicate with people as if it see them.

The company will test the car and people's reactions to the technology by operating it on a dedicated street in Coventry. As the car walks, people’s reaction will be analyzed when the car stops and waits for them to cross the street. The eyes are designed to monitor pedestrian traffic and appear to be looking at them and waiting for them to cross the street.

 

During the experiment, engineers will record the trust level of pedestrians before and after the car contacted with their eyes and stopped for them. This experience meets  the brand's long-term goals, including improving safety in driving and improving mobility.
