The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has developed a short list of 2017 cars which includes the most safe, comfortable and life-saving cars for passengers.
The list included the names of six large cars of different models, but only three cars were able to share the award “Top Safety Pick+", which is the highest award offered by the Institute for the safest cars.
The winner cars of the “Top Safety Pick+” title where, Lincoln Continental, Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Toyota Avalon. Tesla S came in fourth place, while fifth place was taken by Chevrolet Impala and the sixth place by Ford Taurus.
According to David Zubby, Chief Executive Officer and Head of Research at IIHS, the front collision test is still an obstacle to some cars, despite the advanced capabilities that manufacturers provide. "The cars that seek the title of PICK+ must pass five basic crash tests, and their average results must be good in these tests - front and rear crash tests, side collisions, ceiling strength, braking systems, as well as the strength of the headlights in dark roads.
Car manufacturers around the world spend hundreds of millions of dollars every year to develop safety systems in their cars, which in return save many lives, but statistics from the World Health Organization shows that more than one million people die every year from road accidents.
