The Traffic Department in Qatar have scotched rumours spreading on social media suggesting that the numbering system has been modified to car number plates in Qatar. The new system, as claimed by Tweeters, is alphabet to come before the numbers.
The rumour started when a video has been spreading on social media showing a Range Rover car carrying the number plate beginning with the letter Q. The General Directorate of Traffic said on its Twitter account yesterday that there is no change in vehicle numbering system in Qatar.
Brig Mohamed Saad Al Kharji, Director-General of the Traffic Department, also clarified on the Range Rover video by saying: “The number plate has been specially designed for a TV series which will be aired soon”.
Brig Al Kharji also added that “Anyone making changes to vehicle number plates without the permission of the correct authorities will face legal action and will be transferred to the law enforcing authorities.”
Finally, Brig Al Kharji urged everyone not to spread rumours and to refer back to the Traffic Department officials for any uncertainty regarding any matter.
