Common reasons why your car does not start

By, 2018-09-09

You are out one morning to go to work and you turned the switch but the car does not respond! You turned the switch again but it is in vain! You will realize at this time that the car does not work despite it was full functioning yesterday. You must have been exposed to this before or heard one of your relatives who suffered the same problem. So, what are the reasons why the car does not work? Battery damage, alternator, or other reasons?

Signs of alternator damage:

Alternator damage is one of the most common reasons why the car is not working. Notice these signs:

  • Your car needs a push every time you want to turn it on. The alternator function is to keep the battery charging constantly. If you need a constant push to turn on the car, the alternator may be damaged.

  • Headlights and interior are in efficient: This is another sign of damage and low lights means that the electric charging system in the car is unable to produce enough energy. You will also notice a flash when you press the accelerator pedal or any part that needs energy or related to the car electronics.

  • The Battery Check icon usually stays on: This causes some confusion for car owners, sometimes even after checking or replacing the battery, the indicator remains on. So you have to check the voltage generator because the problem is there.

  • You hear unusual sounds or smell bad things: The alternator works with various components in your car, including many belts and pulleys. If damage or malfunction occurs in it, there will be additional friction between the rubber belts and we all know what is the smell of the inflamed rubber. Similarly, bad generators can often produce strange sounds from under the bonnet.

  • Your vehicle stops frequently: damage to the alternator will cause your vehicle to crash and stop frequently.

Dead battery signs:

Common signs of a dead car batteryinclude the following:

  • Slow Start Engine: If the car is working gradually, and remains working it means that you have a damaged car battery.

  • Blower Battery Case: Exposure to extreme cold temperature fluctuations can inflate the car battery.

  • Corrosion: Holes and signs of corrosion or rust are signs of the need to replace the battery.

  • Rotten Eggs Smell: Batteries release gas when they are bad. This odor usually resembles rotten eggs or sulfur and can invade the cabin through the openings.

  • Battery replacement date ends: Most new batteries can last at least five years, although you should always pay attention to the "date of replacement" on the battery.

Other reasons

Although a dead battery or bad alternator may be the most popular causes, other components may be the problem.

  • Key: Have the car's headlights been lit but the car has not yet worked? You may need a new operating key, and its price is relatively reasonable.

  • Fuel Filter: Dust can clog the fuel filter over time, limiting the amount of gas that reaches the engine. It is best to replace the fuel filter at least once a year.

  • Fuel pump: The damaged fuel pump can prevent gasoline from entering the engine.

  • Ignition plugs: All engines must contain spark, fuel and pressure suitable for operation. If the spark plugs do not work at the first step, your car will probably never work. It is recommended to replace the spark plugs each 100,000 miles, so check the maintenance schedule.
