Types of Smoke from Exhaust

By, 2018-07-30

smoke from the car exhaust

Some people may think that the smoke from the exhaust is natural and they do not have to worry. But in fact, the smoke from the exhaust of the car of all its types and colors indicates that there is a problem in the car or the engine, specifically. If you know the types of , that will help you identify the problem of the engine and work to fix it and repair the faults as soon as possible.

The smoke is classified according to its color that the natural smoke that comes out of the exhaust is transparent. If the smoke has colors such as white, black or blue, there are different engine problems that need to be fixed.

What kind of smoke is coming out of the car exhaust? And what does each type and color of smoke indicate?

1. White smoke:

If the white smoke from the exhaust is not thick and looks like steam and disappears quickly, there is no need to worry because it is due to the intensification of moisture inside the exhaust. If the white is thick and smelled, this indicates that there is a problem in the car.

The white smoke of the car may be due to the combustion of coolant or water in the combustion chamber of the engine due to a malfunction in the cylinder head closure elements or the presence of a crack in the engine and the cost of repair here is expensive. But you should never ignore the smoke and the defaults causing it because it will cost you much more in the future.

2. Black smoke:

A black smoke from the car indicates that there is a large amount of unburned fuel in the combustion chamber of the engine so the combustion process does not normally occur due to the lack of air to burn all the fuel.

As for the cause of black smoke, it is possible to have several problems, including a defect in the oxygen sensor, which gives the wrong signal to the computer with low fuel, which drives the computer to increase the amount of fuel to the engine. Gasoline engines that produce black smoke suffer from the lack of sufficient oxygen to make the combustion process be done naturally and cleanly.

To solve this problem you should check the air filter and change it if necessary and ensure the safety of the oxygen sensor and spark plugs.

3. Blue smoke:

Exhaust blue smoke means oil engine leakage and a heavy consumption of it. Blue smoke and too much engine oil leakage are caused by a malfunction in the cylinders, which often needs to be changed.

You can monitor the consumption of oil engine and see if there is leaking or an increase of consumption, each kilometer needs almost a liter of oil.
