Ministry of Interior issues safety guidelines for drivers while driving in the rains

By, 2018-02-26

Accidents, unfortunately, come along with rains; Qatar recently has seen heavy rains. So, the Ministry of Interior issues some safety guidelines to put an end to the accidents and save the lives of people. The instructions are:

  • As rain falls, it creates slick conditions causing vehicles to skid more readily. The best way to avoid skidding is to slow down. Driving at a slower pace affords enough control and allows more of the tire’s tread to make contact with the road, which leads to better traction.

  • It takes about three times longer to brake on wet roads than on dry roads. Since more distance is required to brake, it’s important not to tailgate. Keep more than usual distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you.

  • In case water vapour has gathered on the car’s windscreen, run the air conditioner to clear it for more visibility.

  • Check the validity of the vehicle’s sign lights and the windshield wipers.

  • Follow safety guidelines during bad weather conditions to enhance traffic safety and prevent accidents.

  • Driving during bad weather requires greater care, concentration and non-engagement with other things especially when it rains and visibility is low.

  • Park your vehicle off the road if you cannot see it, so that you keep your safety as well as that of others.

  • Turn on windshields’ wipers to remove water on the car’s glass.

  • During rain, avoid pressure on the brake as hard as it may cause the car to slip, due to difficulty to control.
