More Radars .. More Restrictions on Violators

By, 2017-10-25

Driving a motor vehicle is dangerous business. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data, the number of traffic accident fatalities has increased in the Middle East in the last few year.

In Qatar, many people have lost their lives or got seriously injured due to unruly driving, wrong parking, overtaking through the wrong side, over-speeding and tailgating.

Unfortunately, many people involved in traffic accidents are likely to say, "It wasn't me, it was the other guy!" Okay. So what was the other guy doing? Are you the other guy?

In a move from Qatar’s Traffic Department approximately 5 years ago, officials have decided to increase the amount of fines in case of a traffic violation.

And in continuation of this decision, the Traffic Department in Qatar is now tightening the net further by getting ready to almost double the number of traffic cameras in the roads of Qatar, reported The Peninsula.

After installing the additional cameras, the distance between speed radars will drop to 2.5km instead of the current 5km.

“Currently, the distance between radars is 5km and it gives drivers a chance to speed. When the distance between two radars decrease, the motorists will be forced to observe speed limits,” said Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, Director of the General Directorate of Traffic.

Possible amendments to traffic law in Qatar

Al Kharji emphasised on how important it is for passengers in the backseats to wear the seat-belt. This is a possible new amendments that could reduce injuries in case of car accidents.

Al Kharji also advised the youngsters to respect the traffic laws specially the speed limits because he said that most of the traffic accidents were occurring due to speeding.
