Ashghal opens 37km of Orbital Highway project to traffic

We all noticed that many infrastructure projects in Qatar are being handed over in the last 2 months. Today, we see 37km of the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route opening for traffic flow ahead of schedule.

The Public Works Authority in Qatar (Ashghal) announced today the opening of a 29km section of the New Orbital Highway between the intersection with the East West Corridor and the intersection with Dukhan Highway. In addition, Ashghal also announced the opening of an 8km stretch of Mesaieed Road, from South Al Wakrah to Hamad Port. The remaining phases of the project will be completed in the near future, as it is expected for whole project to be completed in mid of 2018. ّ

In a press interview with The Peninsula, Ashghal’s Expressway Department Manager Eng. Yousef Al Emadi said: “The two partially opened roads were completed 30 days before schedule. We rescheduled some projects incorporating the New Orbital Highway and Truck Route in line with Ashghal’s commitment to deliver the expressway projects on or before time,”

The new stretches of roads provide a direct connection between Salwa Road and Dukhan Highway to form an alternative route away from Doha city, which will help reduce traffic jams.
