By, 2017-03-07

The Participants in the Inventor’s Council in Doha have presented a number of suggestions to reduce traffic in 22nd February Road. The participants have also presented 6 reasons for the traffic in this express way.

The main reasons for traffic on 22nd February Road is that the design of entrances and exits is not appropriate, the large number of shopping malls and government departments on both sides of the road, the fact that the Expressway (February 22) is the only road connecting Doha with the northern cities. In addition to the fact that the width of the road is not enough for the number of cars using it. Finally, the driving habits and the continuous traffic violations is the sixth reason for traffic.

Mr. Rashid Ibraheem was leading the meeting in which he welcomed all the participants to the council which has changed the idea of innovators. Mr Ibraheem said that the council will discuss in every meeting a new problem, and the participants will try to “brain storm” and exchange of views between specialists to propose recommendations and present them to the competent authorities.

Traffic jams caused the county a loss of $ 6.6 billion

Mr. Rashid Ibraheem said that selecting traffic as a problem for discussion was because of what was published in newspapers that traffic jams caused the county a loss of $ 6.6 billion, which is of course a huge loss, as well as slow moving traffic has become a daily problem for all citizens. Therefore, the board felt the need to put this problem on the table to discuss specifically the traffic in Doha Expressway.

Mr Rashid Ibrahim suggested to redesigned entrances and exits on both sides of the road to avoid long traffic tails.

For his part, Mr. Hareb Al Jabri, executive director of the council, to form a working group composed of innovative individuals and a number of specialists from the Traffic Department, to develop a number of solutions and propose them to the concerned authorities.

And in the same context, the Qatari innovative Mr. Hatmi Al-Hatmi, bronze medalist at Geneva for his invention of reprogramming traffic lights and the use of sensors, proposed several solution to solve the traffic crisis on 22nd February Road, pointing that the main cause of congestion on this road is breakdown cars or traffic accidents. So he proposed to keep a car crane nearby so that if one of the cars broke down it can easily be dragged away from the road.

The second idea presented by Mr Al Hatmi is to separate the left lane from the other lanes to prevent the use of the fast lane by cars that want to enter the service roads in the far-right.

In his turn, Mr. Mohsin Sheikh suggested to adjustable speed limits according to the traffic situation and the density of cars. This can be done through the development of sensors and signboards along the road.
