BMW is trying to follow Mercedes with the 9-Series

By, 2016-08-20

The giant Germany manufacturer BMW will never live in peace with Mercedes Banz. Since Mercedes added Maybach to its range, BMW is thinking how to cmplete with this move. Now BMW is pondering a model line that can compete with the super luxury cars of Maybach.

A recent report has confirmed that BMW has started a project of making a bigger and more luxurious model compared to the 7-series. The new car is still in concept stage and the production date is still unknown. However, it is most likely to be a low-slung four-door sedan with a sloping roofline. It is also possible that the under development concept will be for a large two-door coupe, but this is less likely possibility.

The car will have the same powertrain and major chassis components as the 7-series, and it is expected to have high structural carbon-fiber content. The engine will be either V-8 or V-12. The car will come with an impressive suite of assistance systems that include semi-autonomous driving functions.

The BMW’s upper-luxury concept was because of the success of the S Class coupe from Mercedes and the success of other Maybach models. The new model will likely be called the 9-series. We expect the new entry, priced well above the $100K mark, no sooner than 2020. BMW’s efforts mirror similar projects under consideration by Audi and Mercedes-Benz; Bentley is considering a four-door coupe, as well.
