The long waited Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance 2022 has just been revealed as the automaker's most powerful production car (other than the first F1-powered project).
The new monster has a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine that works in tandem with an electric motor at the rear axle. This engine is combined with an electric two-speed transmission and an electronically controlled limited-slip rear differential.
The engine generates an estimated power of 831 horsepower and more than 1,400 Nm of torque. The car also features a 14-horsepower belt-driven alternator.
The Mercedes-AMG GT63SE Performance accelerates from 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in just 2.9 seconds and top speed is 196 mph (316 km/h).
The battery used is based on a high-tech coolant with a non-conductive liquid that flows around all 560 cells and cools them individually. Approximately 3.6 gallons (14 liters) of coolant flows continuously through the battery pack to keep it at an ideal temperature of 45°C (113°F), no matter how often it is charged or discharged.
And this "beast" is available with no less than 7 driving modes, including: Comfort, Sport, Sport+, Race, Slippery, Individual. Most of these speak for themselves, though the Slippery mode is particularly interesting because it cuts down on power and provides a flatter torque curve to help in slippery conditions.
All Mercedes-AMG GT63SE Performance models come standard with multi-chamber air suspension, automatic level control and electronically controlled adjustable damping. The car is also equipped with carbon-ceramic brakes with 420 mm front discs and six-piston calipers that work in tandem with 380 mm rear discs with single-piston calipers.
Few modifications were made to the car's design. In fact, the E Performance badges and coupling cap on the rear fascia are the main differences from the standard GT 63 4-Door. Admittedly, AMG has also designed new 20- and 21-inch light-alloy wheels, each in two different colours.
Customers can also choose the AMG Night Package II or a combination of the Night Package and Carbon Package to make the sedan even more distinctive.
Some minor interior changes have also been made, including the AMG hybrid screens and functions. This includes graphics on the infotainment screen depicting the power flow of the entire drive system. Rear seat passengers also receive information on the power flow.
