German carmaker Audi to slash 9,500 jobs by 2025

 

Audi has announced it will cut 9,500 jobs by 2025 to make itself more "lean and sustainable. The step to be taken by Audi is  to restructure its production and manufacturing, focusing on electric models and saving 6.6 billion dollars (QR25 billion).

 

The savings over the next decade will allow Audi to achieve a necessary profit margin of 9% to 11%, which will be invested in future projects for electric models and advanced digital technologies.

 

 

Audi will offer an attractive early retirement program to encourage some of its employees to quit, pointing out that “some existing jobs will not be needed, while others will be created,” such as adding 2,000 new jobs focused on electrical and digital development. Audi aims to achieve an annual production rate of 450,000 vehicles at its Ingolstadt plant, with 225,000 vehicles at its Neckarsulm plant.

 

Audi, which is still reeling from losses it took in the wake of the 2015 emissions scandal known as Dieselgate, has struggled to keep pace with competitors such as Daimler and BMW.
