For 100 years, Chevrolet has remained one of the most recognizable automotive brands in the Middle East, building a reputation around large SUVs, dependable pickup trucks, and vehicles designed to handle the region’s demanding climate and long-distance driving culture. What began as an early expansion into the Middle East in the 1920s eventually turned Chevrolet into a household name across Gulf countries and the wider MENA region.

Chevrolet’s strongest connection with Middle Eastern buyers came through vehicles that matched regional lifestyles. Large families, desert travel, and long highway commutes increased demand for spacious SUVs and durable trucks, allowing models like the Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe to dominate roads in countries such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, and Qatar for decades.
The Chevrolet Caprice also became one of the brand’s most iconic cars in the Gulf during the 1980s and 1990s. Known for its smooth ride, large cabin, and V8 performance, the Caprice became especially popular among families, government fleets, and taxi operators across the region.

Chevrolet’s pickup truck success was equally important. The Chevrolet Silverado earned a strong reputation for reliability and towing capability, making it a common choice for both business owners and off-road enthusiasts. In several Gulf countries, Silverado models became closely associated with desert driving and outdoor lifestyles.
General Motors says it sold more than 4.5 million vehicles across the Middle East and North Africa during its regional history, supported by an extensive dealer and service network. The company also highlighted the role its operations played in supporting local jobs and automotive businesses throughout the region.
To mark the 100-year milestone, GM Africa & Middle East launched a special documentary project reflecting on Chevrolet’s history in the region and its cultural impact on generations of drivers. The company says the next phase of its Middle East strategy will focus on connected technologies, advanced safety systems, and electrification.
Future Chevrolet models in the Middle East are also expected to feature more advanced driver assistance technologies, including GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving system, as the brand continues adapting to changing customer expectations in the region.
Chevrolet’s century-long success in the Middle East was built on more than just sales numbers. The company established itself by offering vehicles suited for Gulf conditions, from powerful V8 sedans to practical family SUVs and durable pickup trucks capable of handling extreme temperatures and desert terrain.
